Frequently Asked Questions
1. Can I register for AFROTC classes before my WINGS account is complete?
Yes. Class registration and WINGS account creation can generally be completed concurrently.
2. Do I need an AFROTC scholarship to join?
No. Students may participate in AFROTC without a scholarship. Scholarship opportunities may be available before or during college.
3. Does joining AFROTC immediately commit me to military service?
Not necessarily. Simply enrolling in AFROTC does not automatically create a service commitment for every cadet. Cadre will explain when contracting and military service obligations apply.
4. Can I join if I am interested in the U.S. Space Force?
Yes. Air Force ROTC commissions officers into both the United States Air Force and United States Space Force.
5. How much time does AFROTC require each week?
Cadets participate in an Aerospace Studies class, Leadership Laboratory (LLAB), Physical Training (PT), and occasional additional training or events.
6. How often is Physical Training required?
Cadets must attend two PT sessions each week. PT is offered Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 0615–0715, allowing cadets to attend two of the three scheduled sessions.
7. Do I need to be medically qualified before joining?
Not necessarily. Many students begin AFROTC while completing the required medical qualification process. Follow cadre instructions and complete medical requirements promptly.
8. Can transfer students, sophomores, juniors, or graduate students join?
Possibly. Eligibility depends on how much academic time you have remaining and whether you can complete AFROTC program requirements. Contact cadre early for an individual review or join our monthly Zoom meetings.
9. Can prior-service members participate in AFROTC?
Yes, in many cases. Prior-service applicants may have additional documentation or administrative requirements, so contact cadre before enrolling.
10. Who should I contact if I am unsure about a requirement?
Contact AFROTC Detachment 105A. Requirements and procedures can change, and cadre can provide guidance specific to your situation.
